The Battle of Friedland, fought on June 14, 1807 about twenty-seven miles (43 km) southeast of the modern Russian city of Kaliningrad, just north of Poland, was a major engagement in the Napoleonic Wars effectively ending the War of the Fourth Coalition. The conflict involved forces of the First French Empire against the army of the Russian Empire
